Falls Park is focus of recreation and industry
The Falls of the Big Sioux River have been a focus of life in the region throughout history. Native American people were the first to visit the falls and bring stories of them to European explorers. They have been the focus of recreation and industry since the founding of the city in 1856.
Today the park covers 123 acres and each second, an average of 7,400 gallons of water drop 100 feet over the course of the falls. Falls Park features:
- Triple Waterfall
- Historic Ruins & Sculptures
- Five-story Viewing Tower
- Visitor Information Center
- Falls Overlook Café
- Picnic Shelters
- Open Air Shelter
Sioux Falls’ largest selection of merchandise and collectibles are available for purchase at the Visitor Information Center. Attached to the Falls Park Visitors Information Center is a five-story enclosed viewing tower with an outdoor observation deck. Equipped with an elevator, the Viewing Tower provides a breath-taking 360-degree panoramic view of the falls and the city skyline. The Viewing Tower is open to the public during the hours when the Visitors Center is operating.
